Make Your Own Cream Highlighter
If you’ve watched my tutorials, then you know I’m all about that highlight. There are so many different highlighters on the market right now, both cream and powder. I normally use powder, but I’ve been wanting to try the cream highlighter as well since I’m having some issues with dry skin right now but couldn’t decide which one to buy…so I made my own.
Before we get into that, I want to explain the difference between the two products.
Powders naturally work best if you have oily skin. You can still use a powder with dry skin, but I recommend using it in addition to a cream highlight, and/or setting it with a makeup setting spray to give it a more “natural” appearance.
If you have normal to dry skin, cream highlights will work best for you. Creams tend to look more natural and are more easily blended into foundation. I also find that a cream highlighter will give you that “glow from within” look, rather than the powder that just sits on top of your skin. When using a cream highlighter, you can intensify the highlight by apply a little powder highlighter over it. This also helps set it and lock in it place for the day.
Making Your Own
Now, don’t get me wrong, there are a TON of amazing cream highlighters on the market, but I wanted to try and make my own using products I had on hand.
I often use Younique’s Eye Pigments in the shades Curious, Sexy, or Angelic as a highlight because they have the perfect amount of shimmer/sheen to them. In making the cream highlighter, I stuck with those shades. In the video below you’ll see that I use the shade Curious.
I mixed some of that pigment with a little of Younique’s BB Flawless in the shade Cream, although you can use whatever foundation or BB cream you have on hand. I chose the Cream BB Flawless because it’s already a shade lighter than my skin which helps with the highlight, and it has moisturizers in it which helps with my dry skin right now.
